My second grade art students made these cute candycorn plates.
Students are given chunks of potters clay the size of a large apple. Then they roll their slabs to fit a pattern I provide for the shape of the candy. Use a cutting tool to cut the image. Smooth edges. Lay your shape in a paper container lined with paper towel or plastic wrap. This will help form the sides up so that it does not sit flat- so you may need to adjust them a bit. Dry and kiln process.
Paint with your choice of glazes. I find that it helps if I dip the one end in the white first. They finish with the orange and yellow.
